Councilor Bill Linehan
Potential Council President
Looks like Southie native and City Councilor Bill Linehan is lining up to be the next City Council President. According to the Boston Globe, Linehan appears to have secured the presidency l according to an official “in the know” of the votes. The council will vote on a new president Jan. 6, after newly elected councilors are sworn in. Councilors contending for the position normally line up the seven votes they need to secure a majority of the 12-member body ahead of time. The word is Linehan has lined up seven votes including that of freshman councilor and the newly elected, Michelle Wu.
Linehan was reelected last month after a battle with Suzanne Lee, who nearly defeated him in 2011. Linehan has represented District Two which is made up of South Boston, Chinatown, and the South End since 2007.
