It’s official – Highway Division Administrator

The following letter is from Stephanie Pollack, MassDot Secretary and CEO:

I am pleased to announce the removal of “Acting” from Tom Tinlin’s title, officially naming him Highway Division Administrator.
Tom first joined MassDOT in December 2013 as Chief of Highway Operations and Maintenance.  Prior to joining MassDOT, Tom served as Boston’s Commissioner of Transportation for over a decade.

In his “Acting” role, Tom has been responsible for the Highway Division’s day-to-day operations, a big part of which includes quarterbacking the Division’s response to this past winter’s record-breaking snowfall.  It should be noted that as part of that response, the Highway Division played a vital role in lending assistance to the MBTA, MEMA, and a number of communities across the Commonwealth that were in need of special equipment or additional manpower, as well as towns that were running low on salt supplies.

Outside of the winter months, Tom’s efforts are focused on the coordination of everything from getting major capital investments under way to small, but critical maintenance projects that result in major safety improvements.

Tom was also MassDOT’s point person on the South Boston Waterfront Sustainable Transportation Plan, which brought together the City of Boston, Massport, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, A Better City, as well as neighborhood residents, businesses, and industry leaders to develop a plan to meet the existing and future transportation needs of the booming waterfront area.  Following the 18-month study period, Tom is now the group’s chair as the goal has shifted to implementing the plan’s recommendations.
