City Council President Ed Flynn is manning the ship while Mayor Wu is away.

Southie Representing

City Council President Ed Flynn will be Boston’s acting mayor for ten whole days while Mayor Michelle Wu takes a family trip.

According to the Boston Herald, on Wednesday, Wu filed a letter of absence with City Clerk Alex Geourntas, stating that she will be “out of town” until Saturday, Aug. 12 at 10pm. She left Boston on Thursday at 10 am on Thursday, temporarily giving over her mayoral authority to Flynn.

According to the city charter, the president of the council is acting mayor whenever the mayor is away from the city or “unable from any cause to perform his duties, and whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the mayor from any cause.”

So there you have it, Southie’s own Flynn has the keys to the city and is babysitting us all until Wu returns.

For all you newcomers in the neighborhood, Flynn’s father, Ray Flynn, was mayor of Boston from 1984 until 1993.

Wu leaves town with a crisis at mass and cass and Wild West shootings in the city. She’s no leader vote her out.

Why isn’t this sort of absence given more notice? This seems very suspicious and literally no questions are being asked.

…Ed Flynn in the Herskd TODAY saying that Mass & Cass is “…worse than he thought….”?

Are you even serious right now? He hasn’t even been down there…UNTIL NOW?!? W-O-W. Just…wow.

Ed, you literally live within walking distance. The junkies (yeah, I said it) make the walk back and forth to YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD dozens of times a day. I’m absolutely baffled by this statement.

Oh, and, um…there are about 20 (+/-) tents there right now. In the past? HUNDREDS, Ed. H-U-N-D-R-E-D-S.

    Where have you been, Councillor?

    Where. Have. You. Been?
