City Council Hearing: stop dropping circulars and unwanted newspapers on our door steps.
You’ve seen them – piled up on the sidewalks, on stoops or in the gutter. Local circulars and newspapers tucked in plastic bags strewn about the neighborhood. The Boston City Council’s Committee on City, Neighborhood Services and Veterans Affairs is hosting a hearing on Thursday, July 17th at 4pm in the council’s chambers in City Hall.
Think it’s just a Southie problem? Think again. City Councilor Tim McCarthy (Hyde Park, Roslindale, Mattapan) – who called for the hearing – considers it littering. One circular in particular, Globe Direct – seems to be the chief offender. We’d have to say in Southie – a certain local publication is guilty of this as well.
From a CIS reader via email:
How do I get South Boston Today to stop delivering their paper on our doorstep every week? I’ve tried emailing them but it just keeps coming. They leave numerous copies in front of our building and they stay there unread for weeks until someone finally throws them in recycling. Enough already!
If you feel the same way, you are encouraged to attend the hearing. Be informed. Get involved.

I noticed your little ‘Caught in Cambridge’ website failed to mention any of the other papers delivered in Southie door to door. Boston Homes etc.. Gee, I wonder why. Feeling a bit of heat are you? Or could you be a little ‘under the weather’?
I don’t think this should be limited to one or two publications–it should cover political leaflets, pizza joints and all the rest of them. I almost broke my neck slipping on a Martha Coakley flyer coming out of my house.
