Just a few months back, the MBTA moved the inbound bus stop at L and East Broadway to across the street in front of Boston Bagel Co.  The initial move was due to the construction happening at the old Cox Electric building (next to Tasty Burger).  Although a temporary stop, bus stop signs were cemented in the sidewalk at 753 East Broadway.

Then…poof…gone.  No more bus stop at L and East Broadway.    The busiest intersection in South Boston for the number 5,  9, and 10 commuters heading inbound is not accessible. You can get off the bus at K and Broadway or M and Broadway but not L and Broadway.  Strange right?

We reached out to the MBTA to find out how this bus stop disappeared.   We were told that after discussions with elected officials and numerous complaints, the T removed the temporary bus stop.  Who knew it was so easy to get things done?

“For now, customers are encouraged to use the adjacent stop at K St, which is approximately 540 feet away,” says the MBTA.  Well, if we are eliminating bus stops at a major intersection, why not get rid of other bus stops along routes and free up some much needed parking spots?   Now that’s thinking outside the box!

What do you think?
