Brace Yourself – Parts of Red Line, Commuter Rail to suspend service during September

Buckle up, buttercup! This one is a doozy!
MBTA recently announced the Red Line Closure through September 29th. The goal is to improve Braintree branch travel times by 24 minutes.
Friday, September 6 – Sunday, September 29: There will be no Red Line service between JFK/UMass and Braintree.
Transit Ambassadors and other MBTA personnel will be available to assist riders. MBTA recommends planning for extra travel time.
Commuter Rail will be free between Braintree and South Station and Porter and North Station.
About This Work
During these closures, we’ll address 26 speed restrictions as part of the Track Improvement Plan. We’ll perform additional work at each of the impacted stations, including lighting repairs, painting, and deep cleaning.
