Early Wednesday morning, the Tynan School custodial staff discovered racist graffiti on doors of the building.  BPD now needs help from the community.  See report below: 

BPD is asking for the public’s help in ongoing efforts to identify those responsible for the racist graffiti which desecrated and defiled the outer walls of the Joseph P. Tynan School located at 650 E. 4th Street in South Boston. The hate-filled graffiti was discovered at about 5:45am, on Wednesday, October 31, 2018. Investigators believe the building was defaced sometime between the hours of 11:00pm on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 and when it was discovered the following morning.

Said Mayor Martin Walsh, “Racism and threats of this nature will not be tolerated in our schools or in the City of Boston. To whoever wrote this message, you should be ashamed for spreading this message of hate where our young people go to learn. Boston is a place that is welcoming and inclusive of all.”

The BPD’s Civil Rights Unit continues to actively review the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident. Anyone with any information, whether it be large or small, is strongly encouraged to call the Civil Rights Unit at (617) 343-4527

The Boston Police Department will stringently guard and protect the identities of all those who wish to help this investigation in an anonymous manner.
