BPD Report – 5 Juveniles arrested after brawl near Boston Common

Here’s a statement from City Council President Ed Flynn:
“It is disturbing to hear about Boston police officers being assaulted while responding to a large fight in Downtown Boston, and I have spoken to the two officers assaulted to learn more about their conditions. These physical assaults and violence are disgusting and extremely difficult to watch, and the complete disregard for the safety of the officers is astoundingly troubling. Assault and violence against police officers is unacceptable, and needs to be condemned.
The men and women of the Boston Police are an integral part of our city, yet they have experienced an increased level of physical and verbal assaults as they respond to emergency calls and patrol our neighborhoods. Our residents rely on the Boston Police Department for ensuring public safety and quality of life, and our police officers are our partners in government and in our community. Boston police officers and their families deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, and we must all work together towards the common goal of public safety for all. “

At about 11:00 PM, on Sunday, August 27, 2023, officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown), multiple Districts, Massachusetts State Police, Transit Police and Suffolk Police, arrested five juveniles in Downtown Boston.
Officers responded to the area of Washington Street and Avery Street for several reports of juveniles actively fighting, and causing disturbances in the area. Officers issued lawful commands for the group to disperse from the area which they refused. The large group continued to block both vehicle and pedestrian traffic on streets in the surrounding area. Officers observed one juvenile jump on top of a car and began to stomp on the roof of the vehicle.
Officers attempted to break up multiple fights, and other juveniles began to assault officers. Officers began to be surrounded by the group who continued to shout obscenities at officers attempting to arrest suspects.
An officer was pushed to the ground and was continuously punched and kicked by the group. A responding officer attempted to help, was also assaulted by the group to include a juvenile jumping on the officer’s back and placing the officer in a chokehold.
With the assistance of all responding officers, and outside Law Enforcement Agencies, multiple juveniles were placed into handcuffs.
In total, five juveniles were placed under arrest and expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court for the following charges;
13-year-old juvenile male was charged with; Delinquent to wit; Malicious Destruction of Property, and Disorderly Conduct
14-year-old juvenile male was charged with; Delinquent to wit; Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, and Affray.
14-year-old juvenile female was charged with; Delinquent to wit; Affray.
14-year-old juvenile male was charged with; Delinquent to wit; Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Disturbing the Peace, Affray and Resisting Arrest.
16-year-old juvenile female was charged with; Delinquent to wit; Assault and Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Affray, Disturbing the Peace and Resisting Arrest

Danny, you hit it right on the head. That’s the problem today, if the police do anything, it makes them racists. The kids know they can get away with anything because of all these liberal judge’s in the courts.All it is doing is making life more dangerous for decent and law biding citizens. I’m glad you had the balls to speak up. More people need to do it.
