BPD Keeping Southie a little Safer
On Tuesday, Boston Police c-6 Neighborhood Drug Control Unit made two arrests and recovered a gun and a large amount of drugs after observing a suspicious car in the area of D Street circling the neighborhood for hours. See report below:
At about 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, members of the District C-6 (South Boston) Neighborhood Drug Control Unit were monitoring activity near the D Street Housing Development due to previous gang and firearm incidents in the area.
Over the course of two and half hours, the officers’ attention was drawn to a red motor vehicle that appeared to be circling the streets in the vicinity of D Street. After observing the vehicle for a third time and a pedestrian’s suspicious reaction to the vehicle as it passed, officers decided to conduct a stop. When the officers made contact with the two occupants, they observed a rolled-up ski mask in the operator’s pocket and vodka nips in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. When both the operator and passenger continued to nervously glance at a backpack in the backseat of the car, officers feared they may be armed and conducted a frisk of both occupants and the passenger compartment. When the officers patted the backpack, they felt the shape of what they believed to be a firearm inside. Officers did in fact recover a loaded black semi-automatic firearm from the backpack. Also inside the backpack were two clear plastic bags containing a substance believed to be marijuana, a digital scale, a box of clear plastic sandwich bags, a pair of scissors, and a ledger—all items consistent with the illegal sale of marijuana. Officers also recovered over $2200 in US currency.
Both occupants, 26-year-old Christian Baez of Dorchester and 29-year-old Wilden D. Suazo of Mattapan, were arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D (Marijuana).
