Boston has the fourth worst traffic in the nation and eighth in the world! Lucky us!
This is probably not news to anyone who drives in the city, but a new report by Inrix revealed that Boston’s 2023 traffic has been ranked the fourth worst traffic in the nation and the eighth worst in the world! Ahead of us is NYC, Chicago, and LA in the U.S.
According to the report, the typical Boston driver lost 88 hours (or 3.6 days) to traffic last year, which is up 14% from 2022. The report also says time spent in traffic cost the average Boston driver $1,543 in 2023 and the city about $2.9 billion. Drivers also routinely travel at 10 mph in downtown Boston. Uuugghhh. You can read the full report here.
So between lousy congestion and a terrible public transportation system including buses, maybe we should be investing in a good pair of sneakers or a bicycle.
