Boston Fire Lieutenant John M. McLaughlin of Ladder 19 (K Street) died in the line of duty after he inhaled too much smoke and dust while fighting a fire in South Boston at an old fish factory on Jan. 16, 1928. He never recovered, and died 16 days later.

According to the Boston Globe, on Monday a ceremony will be held to honor and remember the sacrifice  McLaughlin. His photo will be added to the Memorial Hall at BFD headquarters. 

McLaughlin lived with his wife and children at 5 Quincefield St. in Dorchester. He joined the Boston Fire Department in 1913 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1927. He was the 84th member of the BFD to die in the line of duty.
