Oh dear.

A backyard igloo in South Boston that went viral online has now been destroyed — and not by the weather.

A few weeks ago, we shared a video of Southie residents working to build a large igloo in their backyard.

The Instagram account belonging to Jack Tarca documented the nearly two-week journey to create the igloo and racked up a ton of views on social media.  But on Friday, the igloo was destroyed by two people with sledgehammers.

According to the Boston Globe, neighbors saw two men break into the backyard and destroy the structure with sledgehammers and metal poles on Thursday while Tarca and his roommates were at work.  Tarca told the Globe he will not file a police report.

Newcomers should be treated with respect and welcomed into the community. We have a bad reputation;the attack on a long haired man at South Station, the attack on a man after the parade. Let’s stop the hate.

We don’t have a bad reputation… that was many many years ago and brought on by forced bussing . And the attacks you talk about , what was the whole story? I heard it was outsiders that caused the fights…We South Boston natives care for and watch out for each other, what we don’t like is having the new residents calling it SoBo
or any other foolish thing , It’s Southie or South Boston… and one more thing.. you are not a “Southie” you come from or live in Southie…
I am 3rd generation and my husband was 5th generation South Boston

Your reference to outsiders vs SoBo natives is interesting. Maryann, we can tell “you are a Southie” by the triggered anger in your response. You could use a hot yoga class. Attacking a neighbors art work In the form of an igloo is a serious crime, Your generational claim to superiority is laughable. As Billy Eilish recently so aptly stated “WE ARE ALL ON STOLEN LAND”. The Chippewa’s would like their land back.
