Andrew Square Civic Association Raises Concerns Over New O’Connor Way Bike Lane

The Andrew Square Civic Association is raising concerns about a new bike lane on O’Connor Way, questioning whether the project makes sense for the small South Boston street.

According to the civic association, the new two-way bike lane is roughly 100 feet long and does not connect to a larger bike network. The group says the project also resulted in the removal of on-street parking near a senior housing complex, creating concerns about access for family members, caregivers, visiting nurses, and other service providers.

Residents are also questioning whether the addition of concrete barriers and a center median could affect emergency vehicle access on the narrow street. The association has also raised concerns about how snow removal and plowing will work during the winter.

While the group says it supports the overall goal of Boston’s Complete Streets program, it believes this particular project is misplaced and is calling on the City to address residents’ concerns.
