Eat:
Skip breakfast and bed and treat mom to half-priced brunch at Local 149.  Local 149 gives their spin on brunch with such dishes as Chicken n’ Waffles, Lobster MacMuffin and the Egg White Frittata with Goat Cheese.  Try a House Mimosa or a Sunday Disco cocktail.  Half-price for moms on Mother’s Day!

Drink:
Get in the spirit – craft spirits! Grand Ten Distilling is located right here in Southie (383 Dorchester Ave – right near Peter Welch’s Gym) and offers tours and tastes.  Tours are running on Saturday beginning at 12noon or  you can schedule a private tour during the week if that suits your schedule better.  ([email protected])  What’s being made?  For spirits, try Wire Works American Gin, Fire Puncher Vodka, Medford Rum.  For liqueurs, enjoy Almandine – Almond Liqueur, Cranberry – Cranberry Liqueur and Angelica – Botanical Liqueur.  We’ll drink to that!

Shop:

Pitch-in:
Scrub the Hub!  It’s Boston Shines on Saturday!  Neighborhoods are gathering together to pitch-in and make our community a little more beautiful!  The City Point Neighborhood Association is meeting at M Street Park at 8am to clean.  The Poop Patrol will be picking up “little gifts” left behind this winter from 1pm-3pm at M Street Park too.  The West Broadway Neighborhood Association will be planting flowers along the Jimmy Kelly Bridge and the Dot Ave Traffic Median. Watch:

Workout:
Join Reebok for two amazing fitness classes in the fight against Breast Cancer. The first part of the class will be 45 minutes of Cardio Kick led by Eliza Shirazi.  After a 15 minute water break kick it back into action with a Barreless Barre class led by Catherine Marshall. Cardio Kick is a cardio kickboxing class that works out your whole body while losing yourself in upbeat music. Barreless Barre is a class that targets every muscle group using small isometric movements accompanied by cardio movements to get the heart rate up. Pick up a map and explore the studios of more than 75 artists working in all media. Meet and chat with artists in their studios and discover new works and treasured favorites.  See Fort Point’s art galleries and find public art installations throughout the neighborhood including an tropical installation of palm trees floating on the Channel. In addition to the more than 75 artists studios and galleries which will be open, Fort Point Open Studios features a series of special events, including: artists’s demos, performances, public art, hands-on activities for all ages Member’s and more!  The fun happens on Friday May 9: 4-7pm, Saturday and Sunday May 10 & 11 from noon-5pm

Book-it:
The Southie Library (646 East Broadway) will be hosting a book sale on Saturday, May 10th from 10am-3pm. Stop by and pick up a few titles for your personal library.  Prices are super low – $1 hardcovers, 50 cents for softcovers, kids books are 25 cents – and you’ll be helping an amazing local institution.  The library is hoping to raise some much needed funds for a new garden and a handicapped ramp to the back courtyard of the library.

Run:
Oorah!  Lace up those sneakers and run for the US Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation!   On Saturday, May 10, 2014 join  over 1,000 runners and participate in the 13th Annual Boston Marine Corps Honor Run.  This fast paced 5K takes place along Southie’s Day Blvd beginning at Carson Beach at 9am.  The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is the Nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships to military children, with particular attention given to those whose parent has been killed or wounded in combat, or who have demonstrated financial need.  So register today by visiting: http://www.mchonorrun.com/  Fee is $30 and $15 for active military.     Is the Reebok event in Canton or in South Boston? It looks like its in Canton and if so, why is it being  mentioned here? Confusing…
