August 2nd

Eat:
With forecasts calling for beautiful, sunny skies, we say head for the water – the South Boston Waterfront that is!  Tucked away next to the ICA, Sam’s at Louis (60 Northern Ave) has an amazing view of Boston Harbor and we must admit it’s very romantic to sit on their patio and enjoy a meal with someone special.

Drink:
Bottoms up! Maybe it’s the sunshine or the heat, but summertime makes us want to slow down, relax and sip on some ice cold cocktails.  We’ve gathered up the recipes from some of our favorites from around town.  We want you to taste-test them and then vote for our first ever Summer Cocktail Challenge.  The voting will begin on Monday, August 26th.  Visit: https://caughtinsouthie.com/restaurants-bar/bottoms

Swim or Paddle:
Swim & Paddle for Boston Harbor, a benefit for Save the Harbor/Save the Bay, will take place on Saturday, Augusts 3rd at 10am.  This one mile chip-timed competitive swim and Stand Up Paddleboard competition will take place at the Curley Recreation Center (M Street side) – which according to Save the Harbor/Save the Bay is one of the cleanest beaches in America!  After the competition enjoy a post race celebration with Tasty Burger and Harpoon for all participants, sponsors and everyone who makes a donation.  To register visit:

Get Schooled:
Hone your sixth sense when it comes to being a victim of a crime.  Learn tips on how to be a “less attractive” target.  On Thursday, August 1st from 6:30pm-8:30pm, you’re invited to take Reducing Your Odds: A Street Smarts Seminar brought to you by the good people of the Boston Police Neighborhood Watch Unit.  This important class will take place at the Condon School (200 D Street) and focus on awareness tips for greater safety at home, work and in public. ?Discussion will include how an assailant chooses a victim, when and where an attack is likely to occur, and how to make yourself less of a target.  Participants will gain a sense of their own abilities and understand options available to them in case of an assault.  In short, you’ll learn how to put together a plan to “reduce your odds” of becoming a victim.

Shop:
Bringing Up Baby – Due Date August 1st.  Filling a void in South Boston boutiques, Bringing Up Baby (663 East Broadway), will outfit your kid from head to toe and it will be open this weekend.  Stop by Southie’s newest boutique (and only children’s boutique) and check out their upscale clothing for babies and toddlers.  They also have a small selection of strollers as well as toys, plush, books and games for quick gift pick up or for someone who has had a special day.

Culture: Get ready for Slummer Camp at the Distillery Gallery (516 East Second Street)! Slummer Camp is a collaborative adventure in painting and sculpture which will showcase KDONZ’s gross creativity, MRNVR’s bright fantasy-based illustration and Adam O’Day’s high energy backgrounds.  Opening reception is Friday, August 2nd at 7pm.

Play: Bust out your masks and capes and head to the Seaport World Trade Center this weekend.  Comic Con is in town on August 3rd and 4th.  Tickets are $25 and you can meet the likes of Laurie Holden from the Walking Dead, Kristin Bauer from True Blood and a $100 bucks will get you a photo op with The Hobbit’s Dean O’Gorman and Aiden Turner.  Warning: If you do go to Boston Comic Con, chances are you are a little nerdy.
