The 14th annual Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer is a sweet way to help battle breast cancer while treating the special women in our lives. Teaming up with restaurants, bakeries, and cafes across the region, Boston Bakes offers the opportunity to enjoy a delectable dessert, and support breast cancer research. Participating establishments dedicate one dessert off their menu for the week and direct 100 percent of proceeds from the sales of that dessert to breast cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This special fundraiser is happening until Mother’s Day May, 12th.?Some local South Boston businesses are participating including Flour, Strega Waterfront, Stop and Shop, Legal Harborside and Salvatores. DCR Traffic & Parking Advisory: Marine Corp Race
On Saturday, May 11, 2013, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close William J. Day Boulevard in South Boston to all traffic to accommodate the Marine Corp Race on William J. Day Boulevard. All four lanes on Day Blvd will be used for the race. Traffic will be detoured to adjacent roadways: Columbia Road, Farragut Road and Shore Road will serve as a route to Castle Island. Parking will also be prohibited along the roadway.
There will be no parking on Day Boulevard from I Street to Farragut Road from Friday, May 10th at 10:00 pm through Saturday, May 11th at 10:30 am.
Temporary overnight parking for residents with a valid City of Boston South Boston Resident Parking Sticker will be provided at the angled parking spots located between Shore Road and the Castle Island parking lot on Friday May 10, 2013. This temporary parking area will be staffed and vehicles will be checked for resident parking stickers.
