Southie resident and artist Maureen is hosting on open house this weekend. View landscapes, seascapes and still lifes at her home gallery – 204 East Ninth Street Unit 3 – while enjoying some refreshments. All Maureen’s art will be on sale for your home collection.
May 19-20 12noon to 5pm.
A new exhibit at the Boston Center for Adult Education (122 Arlington Street) is featuring one our favorite photographers and Southie residents, Joel Benjamin. “Pride: 40 Years of Protest & Celebration” a joint exhibition between the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) & The History Project. The exhibition will be open through June 30. This exhibit is free and open to the public from 9am to 5pm. The pieces displayed in the exhibition showcase the immense cultural & political changes that have affected New England’s LGBT communities over the decades. Opening celebration happens Friday, May 18th from 6pm to 8pm and feature complimentary cocktail.

Bill Gleason of the West Broadway Neighborhood Association needs your help to win a sweet 10 grand ($10,000) for the community of South Boston. Odwalla Plant a Tree Program wants to give 10 organizations $10,000 to use for tree planting projects. With the belief that maintaining a healthy environment for generations to come, Odwalla spreads the message that the planting trees of the utmost importance. Bill Gleason’s project is to add some beautiful trees to a new park and bike path that begin the Harbor Walk. Then trees will add some much need shade too!
Now this is where you come in! The top 10 out of 20 finalists will win the $10,000 and all you have to do is vote. The ten with the most votes win! So vote!

Have you tried Local 149’s new spring menu? Well, what are you waiting for? Featuring new items such as Couscous Dressed Salmon, Fish and Chips, and Rosemary Rack of Lamb and the Dark and Stormy Ice Cream Sammie, the menu at Local is a breath of fresh air. Don’t worry crowd favorites such as Hog Wings and Fried Brussels Sprouts are still on the menu but we have a feeling you might have some new favorites! Our fav? Mac n’ Cheese Fritters!

It’s perfect drinking weather. Harpoon Fest is this weekend. Celebrate the fact we are one step closer to summer with Harpoon summer ales, live music and food. The fun begins Friday, May 18th at 5:30 and continues on Saturday, may 19th at 2pm. Cost is $20. Must be 21 plus to participate. Harpoon Brewery 306 Northern Avenue. www.harpoonbrewery.com

Cheer on the Celtics Friday night (8pm) as they take on Philadelphia in the conference semi-finals. Our pick to watch a game? The Seapoint of course! Pitch-in!
Pitch in! Senator Jack Hart along wit the DCR will be cleaning up the beaches on Saturday, May 19th at 9am. Meet up with other South Boston residents at the Murphy Skating Rink grab a rake or a trash bag and help clean up Pleasure Bay Beaches. “If everyone works together, our beaches will be pristine and ready for summer fun, ” says Hart. So be a good neighbor and help pitch in!
