Eat:
Stop by Telegraph Hill  (289 Dorchester Street) for an appetizer or two.  Their extensive appetizer menu features such delights as their famous nachos and crab stuffed mushrooms.  A perfect pairing with on their many craft beers on tap.

Drink:
Sip a Dragon Bowl at Blue Dragon.  Located at the corner of A and Melcher Street in Fort Point,  Blue Dragon – a cozy restaurant with an asian spin serve up the Dragon Bowl – an oversized clay pot filled with Mai Tai complete with ice volcano that is lit on fire! 

Look:
Experience a starry night in Fort Point – a magical, fully programmable LED installation created by Lisa Greenfield and Daniel J. van Ackere.  This celebratory unveiling takes place on Saturday, December 21st at 5pm on A Street under the Sumer Street Bridge followed by a little mixer at Lucky’s Lounge. 

Dance:
Southie’s favorite band Thomas Park is playing Friday, December 20th at The Foundation Room (15 Lansdowne Street) at 9pm.  Celebrate Christmas with Thomas Park!  Cover charge is $12.  See you there!

Wear:
Love ’em or hate ’em, ugly sweater season is upon us.  Be it bedazzled, emblazoned with Santas, or stitched with reindeer, it’s time to pull out “the sweater” and put it to good use.  Here are some situations  in Southie that are celebrating the season with ugly Christmas sweaters:

Bees Knees (12 Farnsworth Street) – On Thursday, December 19th from 6pm-8pm wear that ugly sweater for a great cause – Bee’s Knees Ugly Sweater Party, Benefitting the Paraclete Academy! A donation is requested at the door of the event, which will go to the Paraclete Academy, an after school enrichment program for disadvantaged, urban youth.

Join in the fun with Tasty’s 12 Days of Ugly Christmas Sweaters Contest and win a Tasty gift card for $150.  Take a picture of you and your ugly sweater, post it to @TastyBurgerUSA on Instagram and let Tasty know why you deserve to win.  Contest runs through midnight on December 24th when Santa will make his pick – hint: Santa loves Tasty!  To read the rules visit:https://caughtinsouthie.com/feature/tasty-burger

Listen:
In the spirit of the season, celebrate Christmas at a spectacular event.  A Celtic Christmas Concert in the Chapel features Irish music, songs, poems and stories from the old country.  The backdrop is the the historic and beautiful St. Augustine’s Chapel.  This event takes place on Saturday, December 21st at 7pm. Highlight of the evening will be Katie McD and the Irish Cross Country Band.  Tickets are $20 in advance – limited seating.  All proceeds will help benefit the South Boston Youth Ambassadors “Young at Arts” program.  For tickets call Linda Doran at 617-464-7463.

Spirit:
Get into the Christmas spirt with the Fourth Presbyterian Church’s (340 Dorchester Street) annual Christmas Concert.  This local favorite event, takes place on Saturday, December 21st at 4:30pm and features sing-a-long carols, gospel, bluegrass, and a collection of season music all done by candlelight.  It’s a wonderful event that will move you!   This event is free but if you would like to make a donation to the community programs, they will be graciously accepted.

Donate:
This is the perfect time of year to help those less fortunate.  Clean out that closet and help those in need.  Mass Bay Credit Union (147 West Fourth Street) is hosting its annual Coat and Warm Clothing drive in partnership with Friends of Boston’s Homeless Warm Hands Warm Heart campaign.  Kindly donate new or gently used winter coats, hats, scarves, gloves and socks.  Donations boxes are located in all of Mass Bay’s branches including the one in South Boston.  Donations will be accepted until January 31st.  So be kind and help.  It’s good for the soul!

Volunteer:
Since Christmas is the season for giving, why not give the gift of time and service to your community?    In preparation of the Msgr. Thomas J. McDonnell and Frank Kelley Christmas Dinner at St. Monica’s,  the search for volunteers to help cook turkeys, make pick ups, deliveries, serve meals, set-up and clean-up is underway.  If you would like to help, contact St. Monica’s at 617-268-1230.

Give Blood:
The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive on Friday, December 20th from 10:30am-3:30pm at the South Boston Public Library (646 East Broadway).  Appointments can be made online at www.redcrossblood.org.  Walk-ins are welcome!
