February 14th

It’s Valentine’s Weekend and whether you are spending it alone or with someone special here are our picks for Southie spots with romance on the menu: https://caughtinsouthie.com/restaurants-bar/romance-menu

Pour one out for Shirley Temple.  Child superstar legend Shirley Temple died this week at the age of 85.  Celebrate her life, her singing and dancing and her curls, with her signature mocktail – The Shirley Temple.  The sweet concoction of ginger ale (or Sprite), grenadine and garnished with a Maraschino cherry, can always be made a little more “adult” by adding your favorite vodka.  We call that one a Dirty Shirley.

Date night!  Whether you have a hot date or are looking for a hot date, Habit ‘s (703 East Broadway) got a slew of new “date night” tops perfect with jeans or a pencil skirt.   They also have an amazing inventory of statement jewelry like bold necklaces and gorgeous beaded earrings.

More snow is on the way!  Are you running  low on snow supplies like ice melt, shovels, ice scrapers , maybe even a sled?  Economy Hardware (111 Dorchester Street) has everything in stock plus a whole lot more.  Lose your spot saver?  They’ve got plenty of those too from the classic orange safety cone to trash barrels.

We know snow is on the ground and riding your bike might be the furthest thing from your mind.  But spring is right around the corner so get your bike ready at MyBike (391 West Broadway).  Offering a complete bike overhaul just in time for perfect riding your bike weather, MyBike is hooking you up, Southie.  The Bike Overhaul is sort of like taking your bike to the spa. MyBike will take your bike apart to the frame, clean every component, lubricate, reassemble the bike, and adjust the major components. Once an overhaul is complete, your bike should be working at its most optimal level.  Sweet! Here are the details: http://www.mybike.com/pages/bike-overhaul And for all Southie residents you get the complete Bike Overhaul for just $85 bucks – that’s a $40 savings!

Kids’ Pick:
Mad Science, yo!  District Hall (75 Northern Ave.) is celebrating Winter on the Waterfront with a free innovation science fair with Mad Science on Saturday, February 15th from 12pm-3pm.  Mad Science’s mission is to spark imaginative learning through hand-on exhibits and activities.  This fun learning event is so entertaining, the kids will have no idea it’s good for their brains!

Parents’ Pick:
Hit the mats and help raise money for new ones.  Ultimate Self Defense & Performance Center (12 B Street) is hosting a special movie night fundraiser featuring Turbo!  At 5pm enjoy some pre-movie fun with games and an obstacle course.  6pm it’s Turbo time!  7:30-8pm  is pick-up!  Cost is $10 per child.  $20 per family.
