Look for the green + white balloons!

Pedicabs zipping up and down Broadway… Dining specials at your favorite local restaurants… Sidewalk sales at South Boston’s boutiques…

No, we’re not daydreaming of Spring Strolls gone by – this is what Saturdays in September hold for visitors to South Boston’s small businesses and restaurants! The first-ever Super Saturdays in Southie kicks off this coming Saturday, Sept. 12, and returns on Sept. 19 and Sept. 26 for three consecutive weeks of celebrating and showcasing the local business community.

Super Saturdays in Southie are sponsored by South Boston NDC and the South Boston Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the Spring and Christmas Strolls and the Street Festival each year, as well as networking opportunities for business owners.

This year, the Chamber had to cancel its annual traditions and rethink ways to provide the support that local small businesses need more than ever. Rather than a single evening of specials and discounts, Super Saturdays in Southie gives shoppers plenty of chances throughout September to shop, dine, and splurge locally.

“Our local businesses are incredibly resilient and committed to South Boston, and we are excited to celebrate them with these Super Saturdays,” said Donna Brown, Executive Director of South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation, which runs the South Boston Chamber of Commerce. “We organized these Saturdays as a way for businesses to welcome back longtime customers who maybe haven’t spent much time out and about this year, and also to help newcomers to South Boston get to know and support the local business community.”

Visit the Super Saturdays webpage for details, and look for green and white balloons at participating establishments beginning this Saturday. Shoppers and diners are reminded to wear face coverings, maintain distance, and use hand sanitizer frequently.

Business owners interested in participating should contact Karen Stanley at [email protected] or 617-990-7062 for more information. Businesses can participate in Super Saturdays at no cost, and the City of Boston is continuing to grant temporary sidewalk extensions to local retailers (also at no cost – click here to apply).
