an art presentation

Distillery Artist-in-Residence Natalie McIlroy has been working at The Distillery since July 9th and will be presenting a new site specific project at Proof Gallery and in other locations outside and around the Distillery building on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 from 7- 9 PM.

Preservation is a sculptural response to the geographical, social, and political history of Boston. Inspired by the architecture of the Distillery building, the ice harvesting of the 1800s, and various historical anecdotes discovered during her research, Natalie draws parallels between material preservation and cultural maintenance. Elements in ice, water, and organic matter will create an intriguing sculpture and slow performance throughout the evening.

Natalie McIlroy is a Scottish installation artist currently based between Scotland and Zurich, Switzerland. Her practice is site specific; combining spontaneous response with historical research to create environments that appeal to all the senses. Using sound, visuals, and sculptural elements, Natalie’s sensitive responses to sites also investigate hierarchical relationships between humans and animals as well as objects and spaces.
