Chances are you, your friends, your boss and your neighbor took the Pete Frates Ice Bucket Challenge last year. Celebrities and politicians across the world took 5 minutes to raise awareness for ALS and support a hometown hero. (My 8 year-old son and our dog did it, too!)

So this year, Andrew Frates, Pete’s brother, and a few of his closest friends have resurrected the challenge for Boston’s neighborhoods, creating a little friendly competition to keep the fight for an ALS cure on the forefront.

Pete Frates was living in Southie when he was diagnosed, so family friend and Southie resident Kiki Colombi is spearheading a “massive Southie Ice Bucket Challenge” for Wednesday, August 5th at 7 pm at M Street Beach. More details here:  www.petefrates.com.

STATS is donating food and space for a post-challenge celebration where participants can buy T-shirts celebrating the SOUTHIE Ice Bucket Challenge.  Stop by Lincoln and Loco after and raise a glass for the cause! They will be donating $3 for every “Frate Train” cocktail sold…..so, drink up!!

According to the Facebook event page, more than 240 people plan to attend.https://www.facebook.com/events/1604326969855169/

Similar events are planned for Back Bay, Beacon Hill and Charlestown. Let’s blow them away with our Southie pride and dump some ice for Pete Frates!
