at Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar

Trying to stay true to your healthy eating goals this summer, but still want to be social and take part in supporting all the great restaurants Southie has to offer?? Well you’re in luck…your friends from Nutritious Navigation are here to help you try to choose those healthier menu options to keep you on track!

To kick things off, we had a great opportunity to pair up with Loco South Boston – 412 West Broadway.  Loco is THE place to be right now and the crew is dedicated to trying to keep their menu options new and exciting.  Lucky for Southie residents, they have some great healthy meal options; some current and also some newer items that Chef Matt has created to keep us all coming back for more. Let us walk you through some of Nutritious Navigation’s favorites…

Move over breadbasket! Loco starts you off with some delicious marinated crunchy cucumbers.  Perfect way to take the hunger edge off while you’re sipping on your drink checking out the menu…

Appetizers
So many choices…how about the Halibut Ceviche and Bluefish Guacamole? Healthy highlights?  So much flavor and incorporates all fresh, healthy ingredients.  Never had bluefish guacamole?  Neither had we.  It was like Nantucket meets Tulum in a bowl.  How could you go wrong?  Lastly, we had the Tuna Crudo Tostado.  It’s perfectly seasoned and portioned to help satisfy your hunger leading into your main course.  We’d recommend grabbing 1-2 of these apps at your next trip to Loco.

Salad
We love their Chopped Salad, which is a green salad filled with black beans, corn, tomato, avocado, goat cheese and pomegranate seeds.  This salad was perfectly dressed and offered such great flavors and textures.  It’s a nutritional powerhouse filled with fiber and tons of vitamins and minerals.  Another plus…it’s a great size to split with someone to leave room for more. We will definitely order this again.

Tacos
We had 2 delicious tacos:  Braised Chicken and Roasted Cauliflower with Baby Beets.  The cauliflower taco was a great vegetarian option.  The ever-versatile cauliflower gives us filling fiber and the combination of beets adds such a great color but also some great nutrients.  The braised chicken was served with a yummy sweet potato puree. What’s great about Loco, is that Chef Matt is always trying to highlight seasonal ingredients, so stay tuned for another one of his creative taco combinations. Score!

Restaurant eating can sometimes lead you feeling overstuffed and uncomfortable.  It can be challenging navigating the menu but rest assured, Loco has plenty of healthy, delicious options!  May your next dining experience at Loco be just as delicious and satisfying as it was for us at Nutritious Navigation!  Thanks again to the team at Loco.  We’re lucky to have a great neighborhood restaurant!
