Veterans Day 2018: Happenings
It’s Veterans Day on Sunday, November 11th! Originally known as Armistice Day to honor the living veterans of World War 1, Veterans Day has transformed into a holiday that celebrates all those who served their country. Make sure to thank a veteran!
Mix and Mingle. On Saturday, November 10th there will be a South Boston Veterans Day Social at Sixth Gear from 6pm-9pm. This will be a celebration of Boston’s Veterans and those who support them. Stop by!
Ready, set, go! The DAV 5K to honor veterans is a run, walk, roll and motorcycle ride that thanks those who served and raises awareness of the issues our ill and injured veterans face every day. The race takes place at Castle Island on Saturday, November 10th at 9am. $25 for adults, $15 for youth 6-15. To register visit here! Free for veterans!
Honor and Remember. Thomas J. Fitzgerald Post (715 East Fourth Street) – will celebrate Veteran’s Day on Sunday at 9:45 a.m with a parade march to St. Brigid’s Church and a memorial Mass at 10:30am.
100 years later. WWI Armistice centennial will take place Saturday, November 10th at 2PM at South Boston Hight School, AWVC Commander Dave Falvey will be the MC, Boston Fire Acapella will be there in addition to Congressman Stephen Lynch and Gold Star families.
Support! The CIA (Castle Island Association) is hosting a special Veterans Day Weekend “Support the Troops” toiletry drive! Volunteers will be setting up a spot in front of Sullivan’s Saturday-Monday 10am-12pm! After you’re done doing your good deed, order yourself a half price hot dog at Sully’s!

Brunch for Vets! The Bowery Bar is offering 25% off their Sunday Brunch on Veteran’s Day for those who have served or who currently serve with proof of military ID. And can check out their brunch menu here!
The Broadway is offering free meals for vets and active military on Sunday and Monday.
Troops bowl free every day of the Veteran’s Day weekend and Monday, November 12th at Kings Dining and Entertainment. All veterans, active, and reserve military members will receive one free game and shoe rental. All military members must show proof of service.
Boston Tea Party Museum & Ships – Free admission for all Veterans, active duty military personnel, and police officers on November 11 – must show current ID for active duty or DD214 (proof of release from the military) at the door. More information about admission – 1-855-832-1773

• Municipal Offices: Closed (including City Hall, banks, public schools, and community centers) on Monday.
• Parking Meters: FREE, time limit NOT in effect. All other parking rules remain in effect.
