Tacos, Tunes & Tinlin: Fourth Fest Returns with Fun, Fundraising & a Side of SNL Tickets

This weekend, Fourth Presbyterian Church will open its doors for its annual Fourth Fest fundraiser. True to Pastor Burns Stanfield’s broader goal of having fun while doing good, the event will be ripe with live music, good friends, and opportunities to donate to the church’s summer programming.
This year, Fourth Fest will include performances from the kids and teen theatre troupes and the John Hazilla Berklee Jazz Ensemble. An auction, hosted by Southie’s favorite auctioneer, Tom Tinlin, will also see Red Sox, Hozier, and Saturday Night Live Tickets up for bid. Refreshments will include a cash bar and build-your-own-taco bar.
Funds raised through Fourth Fest are tax-deductible and go toward supporting the church’s Summer Meals program, a free-to-join six-day camp meant to fill in meal gaps for children aged 4-12. “A lot of families depend on the meals that are available in school and those are not available in the summer,” said Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries, Janine Warrington, “Then we also have arts programming and outdoor games and field trips and different kind of cultural opportunities for the kids who are involved as well.”
Summer Meals attendees can expect kickball games at Moakley Park, to take part in reenactments of stories from history and the bible, performances by professional ballerinas and frisbee-catching dogs, and a dumpling-making class with Mei Mei Dumplings.
Donations will also go toward funding their growing food pantry. “One source of support for us and all other food pantries is the [United States Department of Agriculture],” said Burns. “That gets complicated, but bottom line, USDA is a way that a lot of food pantries across the country function affordably. Our sources let us know that that may not continue because of what’s going on federally.”
Fourth Fest is made possible by its Host Committee and support from across the congregation and the greater Boston area. Special thanks are given to Tinlin, Hazilla, Southline, John Higgins, NBC, The Foundation To Be Named Later, Mindy D’Arbeloff, Ingrid Gerdes, Rena Gyftopoulos, Alyce and Patrick Lee, the Broadway Restaurant Group, and the Fourth Fest Planning Committee.
Fourth Fest is scheduled for Sunday, May 4, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at Southline, 1135 William T. Morrissey Blvd. Tickets are available here. Donations can be made via PayPal and Venmo.
