It’s back! The Lawn on D is back and better than ever and they’re celebrating the Grand Opening this weekend with fun activities for the whole family.  This year, we can look forward to a new and improved food & drink offering from our friends at Rebel Restaurants (Think: Temazcal, Whiskey Priest & more) and a few of our old favorites, like plenty of lawn games and those oh-so-popular Insta-worthy swings. It all kicks off this weekend with a family-friendly festival and an After Dark concert featuring one of Boston’s hottest bands. You can check out the full schedule here!

We caught up with Kathleen O’Brien, Marketing Director for the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority and she shared some juicy details about what we can expect this weekend and for the season.

What’s different about the Lawn on D this year? What improvements have been made in the offseason?

We’ve added a few things to make the Lawn on D better than ever. First, we have a Signature Pavilion which is a new unique and inviting space for small private events. We’ve also partnered with the Cronin Group for expanded menus and with Citizen’s Bank, an organization committed to support The Lawn on D as a vibrant and interactive neighborhood playground for families and friends. There are also several beautiful urban landscape improvements to check out this year.

What events are you looking forward to most this summer at the Lawn?

Overall, the Lawn is a great place for families and friends to gather for a guaranteed great time together, the Open Lawn on weekends is the perfect place to escape and hang out in the city. We’ll be offering the popular Lunch On D Fridays, where you can enjoy a salad, wrap, or something from the grill while enjoying live music from the Berklee College of Music.  Plus, we’re looking forward to Swing Time 3.0, which means new swings and colors will be revealed in late June. And, of course, Grand Opening weekend with activities and fun for all ages.

Talk about the Children’s Festival a little bit for Grand Opening Weekend – What do you think the kids will love most!

The kids will love everything! Spending your Saturday on The lawn will be very fun and educational for little ones of all ages.
