St. Patrick smiled upon Seapoint in Southie
Normally, on March 17th, Seapoint Restaurant – a family owned business for over over 40 years in South Boston, is filled to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Every seat taken. Guinness flowing. Live Irish music playing. Patrons singing and dancing and plates upon plates of corned beef and cabbage are served. This year, the scene at the restaurant was remarkably different.
Just like every other restaurant and bar in Massachusetts, there are restrictions in place due to COVID-19, it would be takeout only. Mona Connolly Casper was manning the ship. She had a lot of corned beef dinner to sell and without the ambiance of the restaurant, would people want to eat the traditional Irish meal by themselves out of takeout containers? Casper needed to sell 50 dinners just to break even. So she took to social media to push her St. Patrick’s Day specials and waited. The good people of South Boston (and beyond) showed up! They placed ordered. Picked up their meals. Had meals delivered. They over tipped the servers that were helping to pack up to-go orders.
Mission accomplished. Seapoint sold out of corned beef! Caper posted the news on social media.
“We sold out of corned beef and cabbage. How can we thank family, friends and neighbors, for your support. We will be open tomorrow for regular menu, take out and delivery! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!”
They made it through the day! And for many of our restaurants and small businesses in the neighborhood, the future will be day by day. It’s important to support them as best as you can. From ordering takeout, to purchasing gift cards, to posting something positive on social media. It all helps.
“On a side note, Jackie, Kiliegh, Thomas and Marcus were rockstars with their service,” added Casper about her servers and delivery drivers.
We are all in this together. With hard work, kindness, and sheer determination, something magical can happen – like selling 210 pounds of corned beef.
Seapoint is offering their regular menu for takeout/delivery. Including their legendary steak tips!
