Southie native Maria Dhami recently earned a silver medal at the 2014 Judo Senior National Championships held in the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino in Reno.  It’s been an busy year for Maria, she placed seventh in a judo competition in Casablanca, Morocco and then followed it up with an impressive win at the Scholastic National Championships allowing her to make her second Junior World Judo Championships team that will compete in October in Miami.   Way to go!

Originally from South Boston, Maria moved to upstate New York to train with four time judo olympian Jason Morris who runs a national training site.  Maria got her start in judo right here in Southie, at age 9, at the Boston Judo Club run by Billy Stevens and Andrea Muccini.

Her next international tournament will be the World Cup Cup in San Salvador, El Salvador.  Best of luck to Maria!  You’ve done Southie proud!
