Mark O’Leary

Summer is officially kicking off this weekend which means Southie beaches packed with people looking for fun in the sun.  We wanted to take a moment and give a special Southie Shout-out to South Boston resident and DCR lifeguard Mark O’Leary.

At the end of the beach season last year, Mark put his lifesaving training to the test when he spotted a man floating face down at Pleasure Bay.  Mark immediately jumped into action and pulled the man to safety, cleared his airway, and made sure a bystander called 911.  If not for the take charge actions of Mark, this swimmer may not have made it.  So for that we are grateful to have Mark O’Leary on duty, watching our South Boston beaches.

For his bravery and heroic action, Mark was awarded the Massachusetts State Police Lifesaving Award.  Way to go Mark!  We are proud to call you one of our own!
