Due to coronavirus concerns, many events, fundraisers, parades and more have been cancelled this week.  With the date of the South Boston Neighborhood House annual fundraiser quickly approaching, they decided to get creative and think outside the box.

“Our House is Where the Heart Is event is our largest fundraising event of the year,” says Kathy Lafferty, executive director of the South Boston organization.  “We decided to adjust the event, based on public safety, while still raising much needed funds to keep our programs afloat.”  She’s encouraging everyone to show their support in some way from bidding on live auction items, making a donation or becoming an event sponsor.

Another way to help

Local business owner, Joey Arcari has stepped up and will be utilizing St. Patrick’s Day crowds at The Broadway + Playwright by asking for a $10 cover charge for charity.  Rob Fitzharris of Roza Lyons immediately jumped on board to help too.  Tony C’s in the Seaport is also helping out! These businesses with have “Dip Jars” at the door allowing guests to simply insert their card to donate.  (See photo below.)   We encourage you to patronize these businesses and help out one of Southie’s vital organizations.

Open Your Hearts to the House’…We need you now more than ever!

Because of growing concern around COVID-19, and the guidelines issued by Governor Baker’s office, we have made the decision to adjust this year’s ‘The House is Where the Heart Is’ Annual Benefit & Auction, originally scheduled for March 27th.  It will now be a ‘virtual event’

‘Open Your Hearts to the House’ will still include:

  • Sponsorship Opportunities
  • Online Donations
  • Live Auction Raffle
  • Online Auction Bidding

While disappointed we won’t be able to celebrate together this year, it is clear that we are making the right decision based on the advice of experts and public health officials. Public health and safety must be our top priority.

That being said, this event is South Boston Neighborhood House’s largest fundraising event of the year!

We count on the money raised at the event to keep our lights on, our doors open and to maintain our programs that serve close to 2,000 individuals each year.  If we do not meet our projected goals, we will be faced with program cutbacks and staff reductions.  So, we need you now more than ever.

We are asking you and everyone who believes in our mission to step up and help us make this Virtual Event a success. The children, youth, seniors and families we work with are depending on us to continue our important work.  To do that we depend on your help!
