State Senator Nick Collins recently hosted a local summer intern in his State House office. Tim Lynch, a lifelong resident of South Boston, spent six weeks in the State Senate office, working on constituent casework and helping serve the residents of the First Suffolk District.

Tim graduated from Boston College High School in 2018, and just finished his freshman year at UMass Amherst. In addition to interning for Senator Collins this summer, he works as a Supervisor at the Harry McDonough Sailing Center on Castle Island, volunteers at the Laboure Center on West Broadway, and plays baseball for the South Boston Senior Babe Ruth League. His interest in politics and community engagement peaked while participating in the YMCA Massachusetts Youth & Government program in which he won an award for Outstanding Leadership as a senior at BC High.

“It is a particularly rewarding part of the job to help young people get involved in state and local government,” said Senator Nick Collins. “Tim was an active and engaged member of the team, and we were proud to have him join us this summer.”

“Working with Senator Collins and his staff gave me the chance to learn about what it means to be a leader in my community,” said Tim Lynch. “I saw firsthand how legislation can foster real change for not just those in our district, but the entire Commonwealth.”

Senator Collins was also Tim’s little league baseball coach some years ago. Tim will now focus on his work at the Harry McDonough Sailing Center and do some traveling with friends before heading back to UMass Amherst in the Fall.
