Save the Date: South Boston StoopFest will take place in May

South Boston StoopFest promises to bring in the music and customers to South Boston.
This May, South Boston will also be importing the wildly popular tradition of PorchFest with a Southie spin – introducing StoopFest
Christened “StoopFest” by the South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation, the event will include small concerts in front of restaurants, businesses, and private residences on the neighborhood’s West side. The shows will all be free and held on a walkable route that will cross through Southie’s commercial hot spots. “By hosting performances on stoops, at businesses, and other local spaces, we’re creating a celebration that feels connected to the neighborhood’s roots,” shared Executive Director Donna Brown on SBNDC’s website.
So far, Love Child, Bohdii Boutique, Olga’s, the upcoming Clover Clubhouse, the South Boston Boys & Girls Club, and Fourth Presbyterian Church have all volunteered their space for the event. Various SBNDC properties will also be utilized.
“Come up with something creative that will draw people to your location,” said Event Coordinator Jenni Mcneill “Whether it be, you know, grab your cup of coffee and roam the streets, certain deals or discounts, it will benefit any of the small businesses that make the effort.”
Unlike SBNDC’s other big event, Broadway’s Street Fest, StoopFest will not block off any will not block off any streets. “It will be traffic as usual. There will definitely be some presence from [police] to make sure that traffic is controlled and people are crossing safely, but none of the public streets will be closed off.” said McNeill, adding that bus routes will also be unaffected.
While there is no official list of talent who will be performing, musicians are encouraged to sell CDs, merchandise, and have a tip jar. r If you are a local musician that wants to participate, you are encouraged to reach out.
The inaugural Southie StoopFest will take place on Saturday, May 31. The event is still looking for both hosts, volunteers, and musical acts – both of whom can reach out to McNeill at [email protected]. For more information.
