Taking time for yourself just got a whole lot easier…and fluffier.
If yoga wasn’t your thing before, it sure is now. How could you say no to doing a downward dog while surrounded by dogs? And by dogs, I mean puppies with baby teeth and a thorough nap regimen that may or may not be briefly interrupted (see photo below).
With the opening of seven new locations across the country, Puppies & Yoga is bringing the wellness concept to Fort Point just in time with school starting and summer ending.
“It’s known that being in contact with puppies is very good [for you],” Co-owner Henri Sagon said. “You basically provide love to literally everyone who attends the class, so it’s very heartwarming to see.”
To no surprise, the demand was there from the start, fully booking their first two weekends shortly after launching their Instagram page.
“We just thought that it’s obviously a fun activity, but it’s also stress relieving,” Sagon said while reflecting on why now. “People come out of this so happy, you have no idea.”
Each class is 45 minutes of yoga followed by 30 minutes of puppy play time. You don’t need to bring a mat or any yoga experience to join the class. And in case you don’t get that picture perfect moment of a puppy falling asleep on your lap while you namaste, don’t worry. There will be a photographer onsite!
As for what kind of puppies you can expect to see, it changes each class and is announced a few days beforehand. Each class will have 7-10 puppies, depending on the litter. They are all between 8-12 weeks old, have their first round of vaccination shots (which allows them to come in contact with people) and come from a pre-vetted professional breeder.
You might be tempted to take one home with you, but that is not the intention of the class. In fact, most of the puppies already have families that they will be joining in just a few weeks time.
While fun for the attendees, the class is also a great socializing opportunity for the puppies, who are gearing up to head to their forever homes.
Sagon said that breeders often see their puppies stressed and uncomfortable during the transition period due to the fact that they didn’t have a lot of human interaction prior. This class allows for them to adapt to the noises and cuddles and give them a newfound confidence before moving in with their new family.
Puppies & Yoga also does not want to promote impulsive adoption, recognizing that caring for a dog is a huge responsibility. However, if you are interested in adding a furry friend to your family after attending a session, they will help put you in contact with a local breeder to learn more.
The company also wants to make it clear that this is more than just a photo opp for Instagram and that the wellness and safety of the animals is their first priority.
The pups always have access to water, are fed according to their daily schedule, have naptime in between classes (but they can also sleep whenever they want – it’s their world, we’re just living in it), and the studio and yoga mats are cleaned after each class.
There are multiple classes every weekend at 15 Channel Center Street, Suite 105.

Love this and can’t wait to attend a class! Would love for them to have a class with puppies who are adoptable, maybe from a shelter :)
