Let’s go!

Maura Gavaghan is part of the Spaulding Rehab Team that will run a virtual Boston Marathon on Saturday, September 12th! The team’s route winds through the neighborhoods of Dorchester, Southie, through downtown, over to Charlestown, Cambridge and back through Southie with our finish line at the Farragut Statue. Maura is running on Team Spaulding as a way to show her gratitude for the role they played in her brother Brendan’s recovery a few years ago.

If you see Maura and the rest of the Spaulding Rehab team, make sure to cheer them on!

See a note from Maura below and how you can help:

On September 12, 2020, I am running 26.2 miles on a very special virtual Boston Marathon Route alongside 3 other members of the Spaulding Rehab team.

We had been training for the 2020 Boston Marathon in support of Spaulding Rehab on the Race for Rehab team. Well, like so many other things in 2020 – the Boston Marathon was postponed, and then re-imagined into a virtual experience. The first ever Virtual Boston Marathon.

Running a “virtual marathon” is something I never, ever would have imagined doing –This would mean running 26.2 miles without the powerhouse support of the Boston Athletic Association and the famously enthusiastic, nonstop cheers of the incredible Boston Marathon crowds carrying us through those miles.

But I decided to keep training and fundraising because I am so committed to this cause and so very grateful to Spaulding for the critical role they played in my brother Brendan’s recovery from a life-threatening injury back in 2017. Brendan didn’t quit during his recovery, and I’m not quitting now!

On Saturday September 12, we are running our own special route through Boston, and I would LOVE your support along the way. For route details and more info, visit our website: https://www.ourvirtualboston.com/

Also – I am so close to reaching the $10,000 mark in my fundraising efforts! I’ve raised $9,500 to date. To learn why I am so committed to Spaulding’s work and to make a donation, visit my fundraising page. Your donation will help me get one step closer to my $10,000 goal.
