Look Who’s Back – The Turtle at Marine Park
Spreading joy!
Back in August, we reported that Colin’s Joy Project was working closely with DCR to fund the specialized delicate restoration of the beloved turtle at Marine Park. We are happy to report that the turtle is back in action at Marine Park near the new Colin’s Joy Playground!
Just another way Colin’s Joy Project is spreading joy to our neighborhood families.
If you would like to support this amazing community organization, Kerri McGrath is running the New York City Marathon soon and you can make a donation here!
Read Kerri’s story below:
My son Colin McGrath was killed in 2018 after being struck by a car on his way home from a wonderful day in the park. His life was full of love, laughter, curiosity. Colin lived every minute of his life to the fullest. His laughing eyes, beautiful curls, hilarious voice, and sense of adventure will never be forgotten. His smile made everyone’s heart happy.
Since Colin’s death, our family started a non-profit called Colin’s Joy Project. The mission of Colin’s Joy Project is to enhance play spaces and sponsor children and family programming in the South Boston and surrounding communities. Colin’s Joy Project has several active play space projects in development in South Boston inspired by Colin’s Creativity Squad, an initiative that engages children in the community to design their own exciting, creative play spaces.
Colin’s Joy Project has also formed multiple community partnerships to which we have donated over $1.3M in the last 5 years! Through these partnerships, Colin’s Joy Project fulfills our mission to bring joy to families the way Colin brought joy to all who knew him.
A donation to Team Colin will support these long-lasting partnerships and future projects. Every dollar I raise will go towards our mission. Wondering what that might go toward? Here are a few examples!
$1500 – supports arts, gym & recess programs at local elementary schools
$2500 – supports supermarket gift card programs for under resourced mothers at Julie’s Family Learning
$3000 – supports supplies for Child Life Program at Boston Medical Center
$4000 – supports children’s programming at the South Boston Public Library
$5000 – supports camp programming at the Boys & Girls Club
$10,000 – supports a month of diapers and wipes for the South Boston Neighborhood House’s Diaper Depot

I always thought that park was dedicated for Mary Morris’ dad, many years ago ????
Are we not honoring him any more ?
It’s a shared memorial. I think the park is in Mr. Morris’ name and the new playground in Colin’s name.
