Reiki means universal life force, the energy that is all around us, and within us.  Reiki is a Japanese healing system pronounced “ray-key”.

While it is relatively new in the West, Reiki arises from an ancient healing art, a system for the laying-on of hands.  The principle methods for transmitting Reiki are believed to be hundreds, if not thousands of years old.  Through the efforts of Mikao Usui, Reiki was rediscovered in early 20th Century Japan. Now, at the start of the 21st century, Reiki is one of the most rapidly growing forms of complementary health care.

Reiki is something that everyone can learn.  It requires no special knowledge, or special ability.  Reiki is an ideal modality for anyone who is interested in healing the sick and comforting the afflicted.

Attunements:  Passing and receiving Reiki attunements is a sacred ritual , one that is shared with the Reiki Master/Teacher and with the person that is receiving the attunement.  The attunement is a process that opens the recipient to a specific frequency and vibration.  This realm or frequency is an unlimited source of healing energy.  This process greatly increases the flow of universal life energy (Reiki) through the practitioner while protecting him or her from absorbing or contracting the afflictions of the client.

How does Reiki work?

The attunement opens the crown Chakra, the heart Charkra and the palm of the hands to be used as the source of this specific energy.

Chakras:  Within every living body, although on the subtle rather than the gross or physical level, there are a series of energy fields, very much like generators that are called Chakras.

Asian cultures have known about these centers for over 2000 years, and it’s only in the last two decades or so that this information has come to the west.

The word Chakra in Sanskrit means “wheel” and it is conceptualized as spinning wheel.  These energy centers are located within the body, in front and back of the spinal column.

Each Chakra has a color and vibrates to a specific frequency.  We ultimately directly and indirectly energize and balance these centers with the laying on of hands.
