Introducing Stoop Dating – Right here in South Boston!

It’s time for dating apps to take a seat.

Stoop Dating has taken Boston by storm with its dating show, where guests have their first date while sitting on a Southie stoop.

For 45 minutes, guests are recorded while being asked questions by host, founder and ultimate third-wheeler, Julia Radley.

Before moving to Boston last year, she had heard about how difficult the dating scene is and how prevalent dating apps were.

Although she met her boyfriend online, Radley wanted to create an opportunity for others to find love in a more organic way. Thinking back to her first childhood crush, her neighbor down the street, she liked the authenticity and the no frills that just sitting outside with someone could bring.

And so, she created a show that was entirely based on just that.

“The apps make it easy to hide who you are,” Radley said. “When you are getting some hard hitting questions you wouldn’t ask yourself on a date and there are cameras, it brings down those walls.”

With segments like Dating App Prompts in Real Life, you might be asked to finish the following sentences: “My biggest ick is…”, “I go crazy for…” or “We’ll get along if…”

In Green Flags, you both will raise either a green flag or a red flag in response to things like: “Someone who has a podcast…”, “Someone who doesn’t like cats…” or “Someone who has mean banter…”

And in Drink or Dish, guests either spill the tea (in this case, a hard seltzer) or take a sip after being asked “Are you a good kisser?” or “Have you ever ghosted anybody?”

Although she was fully confident in the idea, Radley wasn’t sure how people were going to respond to this new social media dating show concept and even had some back up ideas in mind in case it didn’t go according to plan. Let’s just say, she won’t be needing those.

Before the first episode was even posted, she received over 100 applications.

Now?

Over 1,000 people have submitted an application since March with the hopes of being matched up and finding a boyfriend or girlfriend “out in the wild” – which basically just means anywhere and anyhow BUT the dating apps.

Radley and her friends spend their 5 to 9 after their 9 to 5 jobs going through the entries and pairing people based on similar answers, ages, types and more.

They are happy to report that so far, all the matches have been successful, with at least phone numbers being exchanged or a second date being planned.

“With Stoop Dating, it forces people to face the idea of rejection in person,” Radley said in comparison to dating apps where you can hide behind a screen. “It also forces people to say the first thing that comes to mind and to be their truest selves in the moment.”

She hopes that this kind of experience will change the Boston dating scene for the better. At the end of the day, Radley is a hopeless romantic and just wants people to fall in love. Could it be that after all this time, the key to finding your soulmate is to just…sit down?

So, maybe it’s time to stop swiping and start stooping.
