Free Family Fun at Carson Beach: Kids Day at the Boston Tri Returns on Saturday, August 16

Looking for a fun, free, and memorable way to spend a Saturday with your kids before the school year kicks off? Mark your calendar for Saturday, August 16th, because Kids Day at the Boston Triathlon is back – and it’s bigger and better than ever.
Taking place at DCR Carson Beach in Southie, this free festival combines the joy of movement with the spirit of community. This is more than just a race, as Kids Day is a celebration of summer, offering games, giveaways, sports challenges, music, and plenty of beachside fun for the whole family.
A Southie Tradition, Reimagined
This year, the event is leveling up thanks to an exciting new lineup of community partners and expanded activities. From the Boston Bruins Foundation to Boston Common Golf, Kids Day is transforming Carson Beach into a full-on family festival – all in the heart of Southie.
Whether your child is a seasoned athlete or just testing the waters (literally), there’s a race for them:
- 🏃♂️ Fun Run for kids under 6 — a short, playful dash perfect for little ones
- 🌊 Splash & Dash for ages 7–15 — a swim-run combo introducing multisport in a safe and supportive environment
All participants get a race bib, t-shirt, finisher medal, and free pizza and more!

“Kids Day is one of the best parts of the race weekend,” says Michael O’Neil, President of the Boston Triathlon. “The event is about so much more than racing. It’s about families coming together, celebrating wellness, and making lasting summer memories. Thanks to incredible partners like Amazon, and Meet Boston, this event continues to grow into something truly special.”
So Much More Than a Race

While the races are a major draw, what truly makes Kids Day shine is everything else that comes with it. This year’s event features:
- ⚾ Red Sox Mobile Batting Cage
- 🏒 Bruins Foundation B-Fit Zone
- ⚽ New England Revolution soccer games and mascot Slyde
- ⛳ Boston Common Golf’s mobile golf simulator
- 🌊 Boston Harbor Now interactive booth
- 🎧 Live DJ playing kid-friendly hits
- 🎁 Games, giveaways, and family-friendly surprises throughout the day
Join the Fun

The event kicks off at 12:30 p.m. with race packet pickup, games, and festivities running through 5:00 p.m. If you’re already planning to participate in the Boston Triathlon on Sunday, this is a great chance to pick up your bib, rack your bike, and cheer on the next generation of athletes.
Boston Triathlon Weekend includes Kids Day on Saturday and the Olympic and sprint distance triathlons, and relay competitions that will be held on Sunday morning. More than 2,000 athletes are expected to participate over the course of the weekend. All events take place at Carson Beach and along William Day Boulevard, with races designed for participants of all levels – from beginners to professionals.
Other partners who are part of the weekend festivities include Amazon, Meet Boston, Michelob Ultra, Human Powered Health, among others.
Don’t miss this chance to celebrate summer, community, and the power of play — right on the beach.
