Finally!

We have been waiting with bated breath for Foodie’s to open.  We saw the construction.  We heard about the fire.  Then there was food being stocked on the shelves.  And today, under the radar, Foodie’s has opened its door – “soft opening” style.

Located at the corner of C and West Broadway, the specialty grocery store has more of an official grand opening in the works with specials and discounts in February.

Stop by and welcome Foodie’s to the neighborhood!

More details to come!

Yesterday I fell in love with my neighborhood all over again when the red granny cart I purchased almost two years ago was dug out and dusted off for its one block maiden voyage to the new Foodies on West Broadway.

No more will Federico and I have to haggle over the last bit of half & half for our morning coffee or draw straws to see who drives back to the grocery store for the forgotten but vitally important yellow onion…”Why wasn’t it on the list!”.

There were days when it seemed like a cruel joke – dangling this idea of a West Side Foodies in front of us – only to be snatch away with never ending excuses and delays.

All that was forgotten as we cruised into the bright, clean space ready to see what they had to offer.  Fresh produce and pantry staples abound and even some surprises…”Look!  They have Alfredo’s chicken parm!” our go-to (high quality!) entree (freezer to oven) when we don’t have the time or inclination to cook.

As I carefully inspect each shelf my anxiety around balancing work, aging parents, and the impending arrival of our first baby with preparing good meals for my growing family melts into the smartly polished new floor.

Will we do ALL of our grocery shopping there?  No.  But it sure is nice to know that just one block away is a problem solved.
