American Provision

Bring it on!  When it comes to cheese, American Provisions is a cut about the rest. Two of their top cheesmongers will be competing in the 4th Annual Cheesemonger Invitational in Long Island City, NY on Saturday, June 29th.  And not just any cheese experts are asked to compete – only the best!

And as we already know, Southie is #1 so without a doubt American Provisions will be bringing home the gold!

This competition is the country’s first and only cheesemonger battle with representation from cheese shops all over the USA. Mongers must compete in a grueling battle which includes a preliminary round that tests cheese knowledge, a blind taste test and plating 100 perfect bites of cheese with accoutrements. The top ten mongers will then compete in the finals with a sales pitch, creating cheese signage, cut and wrapping cheese without a scale and then the grand finale of coming up with the perfect wine or beer pairing.

So who will be representing Southie in such a competition?  None other than American Provisions Wine Buyer Joe Quintero and Local Cheese and Beer Buyer Mike Hanson. “Boston has an emerging specialty and farm-to-table scene that has really exploded. We’re not going there to necessarily compete with the other cheese shops. We’re going there to throw our hat in the ring and represent Boston’s burgeoning food scene,” explains Joe. “And obviously it would be great to win,” adds Mike.

With an extensive knowledge of cheese and pairings between the two, American Provisions is confident that these curd nerds will do Southie proud.  When they bring home the title of Best Cheesemonger Ever, we would have to guess, it will be a South Boston first!

Go get ’em boys!  We’re rooting for you!
