Bark the Vote: Seaport to Elect First-Ever Dog Mayor in 2024

Boston, MA – October 1, 2024 – This fall, the Seaport District is officially going to the dogs! Seaport is thrilled to announce the launch of Bark The Vote, an initiative to elect the neighborhood’s first-ever Dog Mayor. From running free at Sea Green Dog Park to sniffing out the best treats at Polkadog Bakery, dogs are woven into the fabric of Seaport life—and now it’s time to give them a voice (or, at least, a woof).
The fun starts with the Pooch Primaries on October 15, 2024, when the top five candidates—nominated by the public—will vie for the coveted Dog Mayor title. Voting closes on October 30, with the winner to be announced on November 1, 2024.
While this election may be a tail-wagging good time, the role of Dog Mayor comes with some serious perks. The winning pooch will be celebrated with their own official portrait, which will be displayed at Sea Green Park during the inaugural InDOGuration in March 2025. The Dog Mayor will also receive a “skip the line” pass to Cisco Brewers and The Holiday Market, a Blu Dot Velvet Signal dog bed, and weekly “pooch-ini” treats from Shake Shack. Not to mention, they’ll be pampered with Aesop Animal Shampoo every 12 weeks and enjoy 10% off services at Bond Vet and 15% off Polkadog Bakery purchases throughout their term.
Meet the Candidates: Each of the top 5 dog candidates brings their unique charm and personality to the race:
Aspen – A 5-year-old adventure-loving Doodle who starts every day with meditation by the water.
Bennett – An 8.5-month-old Golden Retriever, a self-proclaimed “couch potato king” with a love for greeting everyone on the Harborwalk.IG: @bennett_in_boston
Lady – An 18-month-old Goldendoodle whose gentle heart and snow-zoomies make her a Seaport sweetheart.IG: @ladydoodlegram
Macie – A 1-year-old Golden Retriever with a penchant for holding her own leash and “talking” to new friends.IG: @macieraeemerson
Rhubarb (Rhu) – A 2-year-old Maltipoo known for her “BDE” (Big Dog Energy) and signature “party paws” dance.IG: @rhuthemaltipoo
Seaport’s community is ready to rally behind their favorite furry candidates in this playful election. With neighbors cheering on, this lighthearted competition is set to bring everyone together—two-legged and four-legged alike. Leading up to the Pooch Primaries, you can meet the candidates at a series of special “Meet the Candidates” nights at Polkadog Seaport. Meet and greets will take place just outside of Polkadog Seaport on the boardwalk. On October 8, guests can stop by to meet candidates Lady and Macie and on October 11, Rhu, Aspen and Bennett will all be in store campaigning for votes! Voting opens on October 15, 2024—don’t miss your chance to make your voice (and bark) heard! Visit https://www.bostonseaport.xyz/
