New Hoops in Southie
It’s easy to be a cynic these days. But every once and a while a little gem surfaces to remind us that underneath it all, people are genuinely good. On Monday night, a a town hall style meeting with Mayor Marty Walsh, Southie resident Phyllis Corbitt was upset that the hoops and nets were taken down at the court located in the Perkins Elementary School. “The kids just want to play basketball,” she told the mayor.
Walsh informed Corbitt that he would take care of it. Well, sure enough in less than 24 hours, the mayor with help from the Boston Parks and Recreation Commissioner Chris Cook, the nets and hoops were installed.
Eric Prentis, Office of Neighborhood Services, said he received an email from Corbitt expressing her gratitude and thanks.
