A special letter to the community from the McGrath family
To Our South Boston Community,
It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since the accident that changed our lives forever. We miss Colin every day and feel him with us always.
As the anniversary approaches, we want to express our gratitude to our family, friends new and old, neighbors, local business owners, our city and state elected officials, our parish and school, and our South Boston community for ALL the support. The time(s) you’ve engaged with us, the times you’ve given us space, the times you’ve prayed for us and sent us strength, the times you’ve helped us smile and even laugh, the times you’ve grieved and cried with us and for us – all that you have done to hold our family up this year. We’ve leaned on you and you’ve provided us with so much love and support. Without it, it would be impossible for us to get through each day.
Thanks to your support, Colin’s Joy Project has grown beyond our greatest expectations. We started Colin’s Joy Project to enhance local play spaces and fund family focused programming for the benefit of everyone in the community. It’s how we honor Colin’s legacy and how his spirit and JOY lives on throughout South Boston. Thank you for helping us keep Colin’s memory alive through this work.
We can’t imagine another community on Earth who’d be there with us and for us like the South Boston community.
With gratitude,
The McGrath Family
Turn a Tragedy into Something Positive
Boston Medical Center’s Child Life team skillfully carried the McGrath Family through the awful first days after the accident, and helped to transition them back to the real world as best anyone could. To help turn the anniversary of their tragedy into something positive, the McGrath Family worked with BMC’s Child Life team to create an Amazon wishlist to support the work of their program. Please consider donating an item to honor the work of these wonderful people, Colin’s memory, and Sloane’s journey, as the anniversary of the accident approaches. Items donated will allow their team to bring smiles to the faces of scared children and help ease their fears when they are in the hospital.
Help us spread #colinsjoy to other families and children who need it now. You can find the link to the Amazon wishlist here.
