The Playwright – Act 2 starts this week!

The legendary Playwright will open its doors after being closed for quite some time, since March of 2022, for major renovations!

Back in 2021, the Boston Planning and Development Agency approved a development proposal for the Playwright and the parking lot next door.   The new development includes a 4-story mixed-use building that expanded the ground floor restaurant space while retaining the Playwright Bar and Restaurant. There is office space in addition to eight residential units.

The Playwright, located in the heart of vibrant South Boston, is preparing to welcome guests after a two-year reconstruction. Scheduled to reopen the week of March 11^th, The Playwright promises to redefine the quintessential “Southie” experience and captivate guests’ hearts. Upon entering the redesigned space, guests will be greeted with a revitalized ambiance featuring two expansive bars, each offering seating for 30 or more patrons,  projector screens to catch your favorite sports team, and a stage for a lineup of live music entertainment.

The Playwright promises to be an upscale haven for those seeking to unwind, meet friends, and indulge in delightful treats. The menu at The Playwright takes an elevated culinary fusion approach to classic dishes, infusing them with unexpected twists that redefine American bar cuisine. From double-stacked smash burgers to succulent duck offerings, every dish is crafted to satisfy the taste buds. Guests can indulge in a selection of three nacho varieties, sliders, or wings, perfect for groups of three or more, from the “share a board” section of the menu. For those with a sweet tooth, there are decadent delights like toasted s’mores cups and café mocha crème brûlée.

The cocktail menu at The Playwright is expertly crafted and plays on new tactics for the beverage industry. Each cocktail is infused with The Playwright’s signature flair, from elevated espresso martinis crowned with fluffy cold brew toppings to innovative spins on the classic cosmopolitan.

But the excitement doesn’t end there. The Playwright is set to amplify the entertainment scene in South Boston with the return of live music. From Wednesday through Sunday, guests can immerse themselves in an eclectic array of musical performances, ranging from hidden talent nights to live rotating DJs and famous country Sundays.

The Playwright invites you to experience the renaissance of South Boston’s nightlife. Doors will open this week, leading to St Patrick’s Day celebrations! With hours starting at 4 pm-1 am weekdays. Saturday- 9 am-1 am Sunday 9am-7pm .
