Some good news for fans of a longtime Southie favorite! Teriyaki House has officially reopened after being closed for more than a year.

The family-owned restaurant, which has been part of the neighborhood for nearly 25 years, temporarily closed after a small fire in August 2025. What was expected to be a relatively simple cleanup required much more extensive updates to the building.

During the process, the Teriyaki House family suffered an unimaginable loss when owner Kenny Lai unexpectedly passed away in January 2026 following complications from surgery. The reopening was understandably put on hold as the family took time to mourn and figure out how to move forward with Kenny’s legacy.

Now, there’s some good news to share. Teriyaki House officially reopened on Tuesday, September 8th, and the family is grateful for all the patience and support they’ve received from the South Boston community.

Welcome back, Teriyaki House! Stop by, place an order, and show some love to this longtime locally owned family business.
