American/Traditional New England

Located on the city-side part of town,  Amrheins a local fixture in South Boston since 1890.

Amrheins is the proud home of the oldest hand carved bar in America and still has the first Draft Beer pump in Boston on display. But what makes Amrheins special is the inviting traditional decor, the friendly staff and the amazingly delicious food.  And now with the addition of its “No Worries” shuttle, you won’t lose your parking spot so you’ll have no excuse not to go.

Small plates and cocktails, please!

After we were dropped safely at the door by the shuttle, my friend Megan and I decided to sit bar-side and share a few appetizers, small plates and drinks.  The bar was already in full swing with a lively Saturday early evening crowd.   We sat at a high top table and immediately greeted by our server – who was very friendly and very sweet.  She took our drink order as we looked over the extensive menu featuring traditional American cuisine and comfort food.  The menu is reasonably priced – appetizers ranging from $5 -$ 12 and entrees from $16 – $25.

I couldn’t stop eating it!

When our drinks arrived, we ordered our food.  We chose the Chicken Tenders, the Buffalo Chicken Dip and the Sweet and Spicy Calamari.  Everything was fresh and delicious.  The Chicken Tenders were all white meat chicken lightly friend to a golden brown and served with a really great honey mustard dipping sauce.  The Buffalo Chicken Dip which is shredded chicken in a buffalo sauce mixed with three types of cheeses and served with tortilla chips was spicy and super-good – I could not stop eating it!  The calamari was both crispy and tender and tossed in a sweet chilled sauce – so delicious.

We ordered another round of drinks and enjoyed conversation and friendly faces that filled the bar.  When we were ready to go, we told our server and by the time we paid the check, the shuttle was waiting for us to take us to our next destination.  Nothing could be more convenient!

We had such a fun night we are planning to go back with a group for dinner and we’ll be taking the “No Worries” shuttle for sure!
