About the Team behind Elephantine
Sherif and Nadine Farag are the husband-and-wife team behind Elephantine Bakery—a dream years in the making and one fueled by plenty of twists, turns, and a little bit of serendipity.
For Nadine, the journey started with a leap of faith. After earning a master’s degree and completing a year of doctoral studies in global health at Harvard, she realized academia wasn’t her forever path. She was craving something different—something that felt more personal. Not long after, Sherif had his own reckoning while living in New York City and working in management consulting at McKinsey & Company. Big career, big questions: What really matters? What does success actually look like?
Together, they found their answer in Elephantine Bakery. More than just a café, it’s a reflection of their values—good food, a warm and beautiful space, community at its core, and a focus on the art of living well.
Sherif, who grew up on the Seacoast, honed his craft at Ferrandi in Paris, where he studied bread and viennoiserie under the guidance of acclaimed baker Didier Chaput. Today, those skills—and the couple’s shared vision—come to life in every loaf and pastry at Elephantine.

Maureen Dahill is the founder of Caught in Media. Once a longtime wardrobe and prop stylist for brands such as Rue La La, TJ Max & Hasbro, she is a devoted lover of vintage clothing, Martini Mondays, Castle Island, AND a 4th generation South Boston native. Mother of three, married to Peter G.
