We’re sure you’ve heard to the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) – the annual bike-a-thon that has  raised $414 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund.  Whether you’ve biked it or pledge it, now there’s a new way to support PMC!  On Monday, July 7, Billy Starr, founder and executive director of the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC), along with Harpoon Brewery staffers who are PMC cyclists, will brew the limited edition “Harpoon PMC beer” on Harpoon’s brew deck!

Guest brewer, Billy Starr, Pan-Mass Challenge founder and executive director; Jamie Schier, Harpoon quality control manager/brewer and a twelve-time PMC cyclist; and Jamie Rudavsky, Harpoon inventory and purchasing manager/brewer and a four-time PMC cyclist. Schier and Rudavsky ride in the annual bike-a-thon as part of Team FORZA-G. Schier rides in honor of three friends lost to cancer. Rudavsky rides in honor of his father, a two-time cancer survivor.

How you can help:
You’ll have the chance to buy a pint of the special brew from July 21 through Aug. 1 in Harpoon’s Beer Hall in South Boston (306 Northern Avenue). One dollar of every pint of Harpoon PMC beer sold at the beer hall will support the PMC.  On Aug. 2, after a long day on the saddle, Harpoon PMC beer will also be available to PMCers as they recharge their bodies on the lawn at Mass Maritime Academy.  Since 1998, Harpoon has been pouring hundreds of kegs for thirsty PMC cyclists in Sturbridge, Bourne, and Provincetown.

We’ll raise our glass to that!

About the Pan-Mass Challenge
The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is an annual bike-a-thon that today raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the U.S. The PMC was founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive director, an annual cyclist, and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised $414 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. In 2013, the PMC gave a record gift of $39 million. The PMC pioneered the $2.5 billion athletic fundraising industry and is today a model of fundraising efficiency. The event donates 100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. In 2013, the PMC generated more than 50 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and was Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. More than 230,000 individual contributions were made to last year’s event. On Aug. 2 and 3, 5,800 PMC cyclists will ride with the goal of raising $40 million for Dana-Farber.
