I had the chance to check out Worden Hall’s Brunch menu last week and in an odd stroke of uncharacteristic preparation on my part, I made a reservation and thank GOD I did because the place was PACKED.

We were seated in the back of the restaurant where the owners designed a smallish anteroom that can be closed off for private parties or in this case, opened up for additional seating. Judging by the level of laughter and boisterous banter around us, everyone was having a good time.

Now, what’s brunch without a Bloody? Boring. So naturally I ordered their Vodka Bloody Mary, as did one of my friends. And well damn, it was quite possibly the hands-down best bloody I’ve ever had. And this sentiment was shared by my co-imbiber and our friends who also sampled the libation. A perfect blend of spices, horseradish and tomato juice to make a nearly frothy breakfast cocktail. It’s a filling drink and I would’ve had a second one if I didn’t have to drive and pick up my little one later.

Even the pickiest eater could find something to enjoy on Worden Hall’s brunch menu. If their signature breakfast of two eggs, sausage, bacon, baked beans, brown bread and charred tomatoes is too eclectic for you, side options include a simple grilled English muffin and a made to order egg.

But the real fun is in the more adventurous dishes. The house smoked pastrami hash is served in an individual cast iron skillet with caramelized sweet potatoes, slow-poached eggs, sambal chili hollandaise and a slice of grilled Iggy’s focaccia. Your cardiologist won’t approve but it is worth every damn cholesterol point.

The ricotta and apple crepe is a buckwheat crepe made with sweetened house made ricotta, brandied apples and drizzled with apple cider caramel. My friend loved them, but was still hungry, so a serving of perfectly crisped country bacon was in order.

I tried to be healthy and ordered the spinach and herbed goat cheese omelet, served with chopped Italian sausage and bell pepper. It is made with three eggs and it is incredibly yummy and filling. It honestly held me through the rest of the day.

Other item offerings include a breakfast pizza, red lentil and chickpea falafel, Greek yogurt trifle and Country-fried steak and eggs. Whether healthy or indulgent, you’ll find something to satisfy your palette.

I’ve been to Worden Hall a few times and I’ve never been disappointed, but their brunch offerings may have become my favorite meal they serve.  Check them out, and I recommend a reservation!
