When Papagayo broke on the Southie food scene back in 2010, it’s was big news! Table-side guacamole, giant margaritas and tacos galore, our neighborhood welcomed this Mexican restaurant with open arms. We are sad to report that Papagayo on Summer street has closed its doors.

According to Boston Eater, the closure is do to “changing market conditions.”  No doubt, the addition of Rosa Mexicano, Temazcal, Loco and Lolita were the nails in the coffin.

Goodbye Papagayo!

Honestly, Papagayo is such a mediocre chain. Of the few times I’ve been (Summer st. and DTX) I have never left feeling as though I was adequately served. I am also willing to bet they did not come close to complying with hiring/immigration laws.

No surprise that they failed in one of the most visible, walkable areas of Boston. Out with the National chains, in with the locally owned restaurants please.

Papagayo might have been the least visible restaurant in Southie, you couldn’t even tell it was there if you drove by. It was definitely mediocre food, decent drinks but Lolita opening next door gets so much foot traffic from A St cut through and people walking home from downtown it was bound to close.
